Friday Frolics: Is this a difficult season for erotic stories

Hello, Everyone!

WOW, it's already December. I just read a meme on Facebook about being the last month of the year, make it a great ending. Maybe this is why I've disliked the end of the year, never liked thinking of it as an ending...letting go.

Now this is in no way what we're talking about today, just a random fly-away thought of mine...that and the fact it feels December and its season has come upon me fast.

What are we talking about today? It does have to do with the season and gift giving, for me that's Christmas. Every reading genre seems to have its own season. Think Halloween and we want scary. Valentine's and we're looking at romance. Okay, these aren't exactly seasons, but you get the picture.

The question asked to our HOT authors was:  Is this a difficult season for erotic stories? Let's get to their opinions.

The winter is a great season for hot stories. Nothing better than a story about a couple/threesome/foursome… ahem, snuggled up by the fire finding ways to keep warm as the snow falls outside. Setting stories during this time of year, especially the Christmas holidays, gets readers ready for the onslaught, or at least provides a refuge from the shopping and cooking that accompanies the holiday season. Two of my stories with Muse are set during the winter, Halfway Out of the Dark, and The Christmas Proposal. As a writer, it's great to write with a warm cup of tea or cocoa in a coffee shop, the drizzle misting outside, with a chill in the air. So, go grab a cuppa and snuggle up to a nice hot story on a cold winter's night.

Actually the holiday seasons are remarkable good times for erotic stories. The gatherings of people, the celebratory atmosphere sparkle with erotic possibilities. There are certain specific themes that might be difficult to deal with from an erotic perspective, but in general, the holidays, like all of life can be viewed from a variety of perspectives, and the erotic author can use that. Gift giving and partying are naturals for erotic encounters and adventures. Christmas parties are a traditional time for people to step outside the boundaries of convention. Since, within the scope of my paranormal erotic stories I even deal with death (and beyond), a simple holiday is hardly a challenge.

If you mean is the holiday season (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's) a difficult season for erotic stories, I never thought of that before. Why should erotica/erotic romance be limited or boosted by a season? Unless of course there are sales figures that indicate such writings are impacted during a particular season. Otherwise, I would hope the enjoyment of good erotica/erotic romance is a strong year-round "love." After all, I would think that such writings cover the gamut of seasons, whether spring, summer, fall, and winter, or whether a holiday season or not-a-holiday season.

From what I've "heard" this season, month has been a strong selling time, why? Maybe it's people looking to escape the craziness of the shopping season? For me this is the month for the first erotic story I wrote, so I'm hoping that's a good sign.

Thank you for dropping over, we appreciate it. Have a fun weekend and hope to you see next week.
