I'm feeling a little upside down this morning, so let's look at her story first and then get down and dirty with Ms. Whitley.
by Kelly Whitley
Genre: Romantic Suspense (Paranormal)
Publisher: Muse It Up Publishing
Release Date: July 13, 2012
Blurb: Human blood is an illicit and highly addictive drug--if you're a vampire. Known as Red, its side effects are insanity, and eventual death. A group of Red-addicted vampires known as Poisoners are killing women as part of an extortion plot involving a lost ancient vampiric tome, and they’re leaving a trail of bodies in their wake. The discovery of each new victim risks exposure of the entire vampire race to humans. Then one victim survives…
Dr. Evan Nichols, oncologist and vampire, lives a monk-like existence, by his own choice, focusing on patient care and research to benefit his vampire brethren. It’s been twenty-five years since his world turned upside down—the night he lost his fiancée and discovered his hidden vampire heritage. Now his government has ordered him to take a mate—or they’ll choose one for him. It’s a horrible prospect, and one that might push him over the edge—until Fate throws him together with a human female.
Wary of relationships, Tara West has poured her energies into work and inventing cutting edge climbing equipment. She doesn’t like the gorgeous Dr. Nichols, yet finds herself unaccountably drawn to him.
When a crazed vampire attacks and poisons Tara, Evan rescues her. With time running out, he has to create an antidote to the poison before he loses his chance at love.
In order to make the vaccine which might cure her, he has to find the bastards who poisoned her and take their venom—before they die of their addiction. If he doesn’t reach them in time, saving her will be impossible.
Thus the journey begins—into the Red!
Now that we know about Kelly's book, let's take a moment to learn a little more about Kelly, her writing, and what makes her tick. here's my interview with her:
Kelly: I outline, and then fill in the outline.
Bex: What authors inspire you?
Kelly: Bonnie Vanak; Linda Howard. John Sandford.
Bex: Which of the characters in your current release is your favorite? Why?
Kelly: Gage—probably because he’s like the crabby guy with a heart of gold. He was fun to write.
Bex: I have a weakness for grumpy men. Just ask my bohunk - the king of grumps. Are any of your characters modeled after real people? If so, which ones?
Kelly: No. Some are an amalgam of real people, but none is a real person.
Bex: What group were you a part of in High School? Jocks? Nerds? Metal heads?
Kelly: Nerds. Definitely nerds.
Bex: What is next for you? Any new stories in the pipeline to tell us about?
Kelly: I’m working on a romance about a doctor who takes a medical mission in Africa, risking his relationship. A little different from the usual romance, in that it starts with the disintegration of the relationship, and then its resurrection.
Bex: Sounds interesting. Will look forward to that. Do you have any unique skills or talents? If so, what?
Kelly: I paint. Writing takes up most of my “hobby time” now though.
Bex: What is the oddest question you’ve been asked with respect to your book?
Kelly: Is it about economics? The title—Into the Red—inspires thoughts of debt instead of blood in some people.
Bex: Hehe. Must be a number crunchers thing. When I saw the title I thought murder, but I'm definitely not a numbers gal.Tell us something about your current release we won’t find in the back cover blurb?
Kelly: There’s a terrific villain in there—a guy you can really love to hate.
Bex: My kinda character! This questions is for my own morbid curiosity...Coke or Pepsi?
Kelly: Diet caffeine free Pepsi.
Bex: Zombies or Vampires? Why?
Kelly: Vampires all the way. I’m a romantic, and there’s nothing romantic about zombies IMHO!
Bex: What made you decide to write erotic romance?
Kelly: That’s what I like to read. There’s nothing like an intimate encounter to lay bare truths about characters (no pun intended).
Bex: What is the one material item you absolutely couldn’t live without if you were stranded on a deserted island?
Kelly: My Kindle.
Bex: What is your guilty indulgence?
Kelly: Hot Tamales—I need ‘em to write! The sugar load keeps me going.
Bex: Nice. I'ma Twizzlers girl myself, but I remember Hot Tamales and Mike and Ikes from growing up. Thanks so much for spending a bit of time with us today, Kelly.
