Read in May, 2013

The story is a different take on the usual Vampire versus Slayers story, which made it enjoyable. The writing style is easy to read, but there are place where the plot and timeline jump around a bit, once you get past these, it’s a fun read. The cast of characters are vast and varied, with the good, the bad, the nasty and mean. You have the characters you love, hate and want to slap upside the head, just like in normal life.

Jamie is a photographer and part-time vampire slayer, since his family was killed by vampires. His assistant Glow not only works with him at his studio, but is being trained by Jamie to be a slayer as well. Jamie is at the very least in lust with Shane, America’s Top Male Model, but he thinks he may be in love too. He gets to meet Shane when Glow, who lives in the same building as Shane sets them up. Jamie doesn't like waiting for what he wants and starts to push for a steady relationship, but that’s not who Shane is. Can Jamie wait?

Shane is an orphan whose never know his father. All he has is a cross that was given to him by his mother. It is a cross that is the key to unstoppable power for the vampire who wears it. Unknown to him, he’s half vamp and comes into his power at the age of twenty five. Also unknown to him is the fact his father coming for the cross, with some help from a rival who thinks he’s helping with Shane’s downfall. This leads to a final confrontation with all of the parties there to play. Who will win and what will be the costs?

The author answers some of these questions and leaves others for you to find out about in his next book.

Blurb:
Will stakes and fangs keep Shane and Jamie from being a couple before their relationship begins?
Shane Richards, 24, male model, has a few problems. His rival threatens to discredit him if he participated in the upcoming America’s Top Male Model contest. Near his twenty-fifth birthday, the dormant vampire abilities within him begin to surface and he starts having nightmares about meeting his so-called father whom he’s never met. As if that isn’t enough one of his male friends who has the hots for him is determined to make him his lover. On his twenty-fifth birthday his nightmares come true and he winds up risking his life in a battle with his father over a pendant with supernatural powers.

Excerpt:
Ka-boom!

His body lurched from the emphatic sound and the rapid pounding of his heart slammed against his chest. Not yet fully awake, he gasped. A bright light flashed from the other side of the room as he sat up in bed, shielding his eyes. Thick sheets of rain slapped against the window-panes. Movement to his right made him look away and his eyes settled on Shane lying on his back, opening his eyes. “What’s wrong, hon?”

“I just had the wildest dream,” he answered.

Sitting up, Shane asked, “What about?”

“I don’t wanna talk about it, at least not now.”

Shane snuggled beside his boyfriend and brushed his lips over his ear, whispering, “Have I ever told you that I love you?”

Jamie cringed. Then he glanced at Shane focusing his attention on his boyfriend’s mouth and nodded. Without another word he threw the bedding off and leaped out of bed.

“Jamie?” Shane asked. “What the hell is wrong with you?”
Without bothering to answer he ran out of the bedroom, refusing to look at Shane.

Review #1

May 24, 2013 J Kanno rated it 4 of 5 stars Recommends it for: Anyone looking for old-fashioned love in a fantasy world!

This is a passionate love story. The two main-characters are well-developed and the mythology used is fresh and unique. I don't want to give too much away, but think "shifters!" (The naked kind.)

Also, what appreciate about this particular author is the character's inner conflicts are just as real as those attributed to the fact that they're paranormal creatures. There is a strange vulnerability each character has that makes them all the more real.

The author has a really different and poetic way of writing and it really added a very different depth to the type of eroticism and love being portrayed.

My only complaint is that it was too short! I want to see more of this world and the characters that populate it.

I rate this book 4 stars.

Normally, I don't read erotica but the premise had me intrigued.

The author, Alix Richards is a skilled author with a great future!
I am a fan!

The story was well written, nearly flawless. I don't want to give any of the amazing storyline away, but I honestly feel I paid way too much for such a short story.

Friends asked why I wouldn't return it, since I was not happy with the length, but the truth is, I read the story and enjoyed it.

 A Bit About the Author

First a storyteller, Alix Richards didn’t get around to recording her stories on paper until she was ten. The creative worlds grew with time and experience in her imagination. Finding her own ‘twin flame’ inspired her to look again at those worlds and characters she’d set aside when life demanded her full attention. Between plotting, chatting writer friends off their balconies, love stories and meeting new people, Alix spends time with her family and friends, happy to share her real life with the ones who mean the most to her. She’s friendly, stubborn and outspoken but still enjoys laughing and crying while reading a good book. She’s a romantic with a harsh realistic twist, because some things just don’t happen in everyday life. However, it doesn’t stop her from believing anything is possible. Alix would love to hear from you, alixrichards@ymail.com
